No fear, except for the fear of God!

rooftop1Matthew 10:27-28 says, “What you hear in a whisper, proclaim on the housetops.  Don’t fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

We are to boldly proclaim that Jesus Christ is King!  We are to proclaim publicly what Christ has said to us privately.

Our faith in Christ is not to be a secret.  It is meant to be made known to the world.  Even if they don’t believe it, God is glorified when we proclaim His Gospel!

If we live in fear we will not proclaim the truth, but if we live by faith we will go in His name!  If we have the fear of man we will settle for a moment of popularity, but if we have the fear of God we will have an eternal reward.

The Christian faith isn’t about me or you, it’s about Him.  To fear the Lord is to honor Him, worship Him, and venerate Him.  It’s about making much of His name, not ours.  And the more I fear the Lord, the less I’ll fear man.

Proverbs 29:25 says, “The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.”  (ESV).  If we fear man we will be sucked into how the world lives.  And the way the world lives doesn’t honor Christ.

But if we know who we are in Christ, if we know God loves us, He died for us, He defeated sin, Satan, and death for us, if we believe He is King of kings and Lord of lords, and we trust in Him, and seek to honor Him, we are safe.

We have a solid foundation for life and for ministry.  When I know God has my back, when I know God is for me and not against me, when I know He will never leave me nor forsake me, that sets me free to give, serve, and love others, even those who mock me.

When my faith is in the Lord and not in man, I’m free to give my life away and not expect anything in return.  I’m able to leave behind the comforts of this world because my focus is on the world to come.  I’m now able to go to a mocking world, an unbelieving world, and proclaim to them that Jesus alone is King!

And if I really believe the Bible, if I really believe the Gospel is true, if I really believe that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and if I really believe in heaven and hell, then how can I not share the most amazing message from God to man?

If I don’t share my faith it reveals either a lack of love for others, or a lack of love for God, or a lack of faith in God, or it reveals I have the fear of man.  But if I have the fear of God then I will unashamedly go to a broken, dark, lost, sinful world, and in love I will say to them, “Unless you repent, you likewise will perish.  Place your trust in Jesus Christ and you will live.”

Think about it.  What can man do to me?  The worst they can do is kill my body but that isn’t the real me.  The real me is my soul, and my soul has been redeemed by the death and life of Jesus Christ, so I’m not afraid of dying because His perfect love has cast out all fear, except for the fear of God.

What happens to my body makes no difference, and my soul is saved, so the issue is, do I fear man or do I fear God?  I need to love God so much, I need to desire His will so much, and I need to worship Him so much that I will live my life to honor Christ more than I will live my life to be honored by man.

We need to fear God so much that there is no room for the fear of man.  Don’t fear the world.  All they can do is kill the body.  Rather fear God because He can destroy both your body and your soul in hell.

God is more powerful than man and what He thinks about you is more important than what the world thinks about you.  So, we need to preach the Gospel because souls are at stake, His honor is at stake, and eternity is at stake.

Honoring the Lord is a far greater eternal value, than having people accept us for the moment.  2 Corinthians 5:11 says, “Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others.” (ESV).

Dear Christian, don’t be afraid of what the world will say or do to you.  Instead, live to honor Christ by placing your faith in Him, and boldly proclaim the Gospel that Jesus Christ came to save sinners, and I view myself as the worst of sinners.

Jesus Christ set us free to be like Him.  He set us free to love like Him, to take the heat from the world as He did, and to respond with grace and mercy, but we need to believe that our heavenly Father loves us, cares for us, and one day He will right all wrongs.

One day Jesus Christ is coming back and all men will give an account before Him.  Nothing will be hidden.  Everything will be made known, and on that day the only thing that will matter is, have you been born again?

So, shout it from your rooftop – Jesus is God, He is our Creator, He is Savior, He is King, He is Lord, and He alone is worthy!
